Canskate Program
|
Skate Canada's flagship program. For decades CanSkate has been teaching the best skaters in Canada how to skate. Skills are taught in a progressive manner in a group lesson format by our NCCP Coaches and Program Assistants.
The program focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Skaters earn badges and are provided with other incentives as they learn fundamental skating skills. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches use teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning. |
The CanSkate program is based on Sport Canada's long term athlete development (LTAD) principles, with a tested and proven new curriculum and delivery methods to ensure skater success. The revised program includes even more specific skills that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating; preparing skaters for virtually every ice sport.
CanSkate skaters are also eligible to compete in a fun local competition (Ice Dreams) held in January.
Skaters can be registered for Monday, Thursday at the Plex and Saturday sessions at the Southampton Coliseum.
All skaters (CanSkate and Pre-Star) must wear a C.S.A. approved hockey helmet. Please see our Helmet Policy.
